South Africa and Ellerman House is able to provide the discerning traveller with a unique experience that includes luxury in a breathtaking natural environment, the warmth and hospitality of its people and memorable experiences. That South Africa has a tortured past, the legacy of which is that there are a vast amount of South Africans who live in poverty and are struggling to become part of the world, we take for granted. But South Africans and Ellerman House have big hearts and we tried to make our contribution to improving the lot of our disadvantaged compatriots and we invite you to join us in supporting this course. You will be making a major contribution to the lives of people less fortunate than ourselves. Penreach is an education and training programme aimed at developing quality teaching and learning in historically disadvantaged, mainly rural, communities in South Africa. Since the programme was developed it has expanded to serve approx 4 000 educators representing approx 990 schools, and over 350,000 learners. Ellerman House’s owner, Paul Harris, is the Chairman of Penryn Trust – the financial custodian and fundraiser for Penreach and Penryn College. Paul Harris, the owner of Ellerman House, is a founding shareholder and partner in Great Plains. His partners include the famous wildlife photographers Dereck and Beverly Joubert, the founder of the largest safari company in Africa, Colin Bell, and the chairman of the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) in South Africa, Mark Read. Their vision is to create a unique safari experience that is equivalent in quality to the city experience provided by Ellerman House.

With their extensive game ranging expertise, the owners have created world-class conservation projects in a number of diverse and threatened habitats throughout Africa and the Indian Ocean, with India on the cards. Great Plains conserves and expands natural habitats. It applies eco-tourism revenues to make conservation projects sustainable over time. Great Plains model is to take stressed environments and surround them with compassionate protection and intelligent management, i.e. conservation tourism.
