It is our privilege to share Ellerman House and our beloved city of Cape Town with our guests, but it is also a privilege for us to give back to the community of which we are proud to be a part.
Education is the focus of our corporate social responsibility programme; a worthy cause in a country where English language and numeracy skills are all but absent in many elementary phase classrooms. The Harris family’s response to this challenge has been the establishment of Click Learning; a non-profit education initiative that deploys online literacy and numeracy programmes in under-privileged primary schools across the country.
The importance of giving these young learners a helping hand cannot be overstated – weak student performance in these subjects constitutes one of the major factors leading to poor learning outcomes in later grades, ultimately affecting employment and income potential. It is issues like these that unfortunately exacerbate worsening economic disparity in a country battling to achieve social equality.
Click Learning is in turn supported by our annual ArtAngels charity auction which helps to expand the reach of the foundation while channeling a portion of the net proceeds into art school scholarships and career platforms for emerging artists.

Formed in 2012, Click Learning was built on the idea that the correct use of technology can shift the education paradigm in an efficient, cost-effective and scalable manner.
Click Learning implements digital education interventions in under-served primary schools across South Africa. These online programmes help improve English literacy and numeracy levels, building key foundational skills required for further learning. By navigating their education journey with the help of technology, young learners are able to work through fun and enjoyable activities at their own pace.
These programmes currently reach over 170,000 learners in 220 schools and have created over 560 jobs for youth facilitators. Click Learning's ultimate goal is to reach 1 million learners by 2024.
Since 2011, Ellerman House has opened its doors to host the annual charity art auction, ArtAngels, for the benefit of Click Learning. Each year's event includes a limited auction of fine art pieces, kindly donated by some of South Africa’s most revered artists. Guests are invited to place bids on their favourite works, buy raffle tickets for locally sponsored prizes and enjoy the best of South Africa's culinary creations, award-winning wines and musical performances.
To date, the ArtAngels events have raised over R26 million for education in South Africa. These proceeds have allowed Click Learning to expand its reach while also supporting additional beneficiaries in the education space.
