Welcome to Ellerman House From Heritage to Horizon

Set high above the Atlantic in Bantry Bay, Ellerman House feels less like a hotel and more like a private South African home shaped by art, wine and heritage.

Arriving at Ellerman House feels a little like discovering a hidden side of South Africa. It is a home that has never tried to follow convention, offering a perspective that turns both inward and outward at once. Between the history held within its walls and the openness of the ocean beyond them, there is a sense that everything here has been shaped with intention.

A Legacy Rooted in a Singular Vision for South Africa

Ellerman House offers far more than a place to stay. It offers a different way of experiencing South Africa itself. What began as a historic seaside home has, over time, become something deeply personal: a private retreat where hospitality, culture and landscape exist naturally alongside one another.

Since 1988, the property has remained guided by a clear vision to honour the country that surrounds it. Indigenous gardens inspired by Kirstenbosch soften the landscape, while one of South Africa’s most significant private art collections gives voice to the country’s creativity and history. The Wine Gallery brings together rare vintages, celebrated labels and emerging producers, creating an experience that feels rooted in the living story of the Cape.

Nothing here feels performative. Luxury at Ellerman House is shaped through authenticity, craftsmanship and an unmistakable sense of place.

It is not simply somewhere to stay.

It is a more personal window into Cape Town, its culture and the spirit of South Africa itself.
