South Africa's Best Young Sommelier 2026

A Journey of Passion, Precision and Purpose: Joe Beziek Named South Africa's Best Young Sommelier 2026

At Ellerman House, we believe that truly exceptional hospitality is created by extraordinary people. It is therefore with immense pride that we celebrate our Sommelier, Joe Beziek, on being named South Africa's Best Young Sommelier 2026 – an accolade that recognises not only his remarkable talent but also his unwavering dedication to the world of wine.

For our guests, Joe is known for his calm confidence, genuine warmth and remarkable ability to transform every bottle into a story. Behind every recommendation lies years of dedication, learning and a passion that has taken him from the vineyards of South Africa to some of the world's most renowned wine regions.

A Passion Born in the Vineyards

Joe's journey began in 2016 in a tasting room in South Africa's celebrated wine country, where his love for hospitality and fine wine first took root. After completing his first harvest and a winery internship in 2017, he pursued a Bachelor of Agriculture degree in Oenology and Viticulture at Elsenburg Agricultural Training Institute, building a strong foundation in both the science and artistry of winemaking.

His career continued as an Assistant Winemaker before taking him abroad, where he completed a harvest at Château La Verrière in Bordeaux and later worked as a Wine Guide at the iconic V. Sattui Winery in California's Napa Valley. These international experiences broadened his perspective while deepening his appreciation for terroir, craftsmanship and the stories behind every wine.

Finding His Home at Ellerman House

Joe joined Ellerman House in February 2025 as Wine Steward, bringing with him a rare blend of technical winemaking expertise and heartfelt hospitality. His commitment to excellence quickly saw him achieve his Junior Sommelier qualification, followed by his ASI Level 1 Certification, before being appointed Sommelier later that year.

Today, he curates unforgettable wine experiences for guests from around the world, thoughtfully pairing exceptional South African wines with the seasonal menus at Curate at Ellerman House and guiding guests through one of the country's most celebrated private wine collections.

More Than an Award

Being named South Africa's Best Young Sommelier 2026 is a significant milestone, but for those who know Joe, it comes as no surprise. His curiosity, humility and relentless pursuit of knowledge have always set him apart.

Whether sharing the story of a boutique producer, recommending the perfect vintage, or introducing guests to the richness and diversity of South African wine, Joe approaches every interaction with authenticity and enthusiasm.

Raising a Glass to the Future

Joe's achievement is not only a proud moment for Ellerman House, but also a celebration of the future of South African wine. As he continues to champion local producers and elevate the guest experience, we have no doubt this is just the beginning of an exciting journey.

Congratulations, Joe, on this outstanding achievement. We couldn't be prouder to have you representing Ellerman House and South African hospitality on the world stage.

We invite you to experience Joe's award-winning expertise for yourself at Curate at Ellerman House, where every wine tells a story and every pairing is thoughtfully crafted to create unforgettable moments.
