A New Chapter, a Familiar Welcome: October at Ellerman House
Summer is on the horizon in Cape Town, bringing longer days and leisurely evenings overlooking the Atlantic. At Ellerman House, the season ahead holds new ways to discover our story, enjoy our private villas and celebrate the art, food and people that make the House special.
This October, we’re opening our guest books, celebrating meaningful recognition and looking back on a memorable culinary collaboration. We’re also looking ahead to ArtAngels in November and even more effortless villa stays from December.
In their own hand
The Ellerman House guest book through time
A honeymoon remembered. A favourite view. A thank-you to someone who made all the difference.
For decades, guests have left traces of their time at Ellerman House in handwritten notes. Our new online archive brings these pages together, offering a personal journey through the House across the years.
Some entries celebrate a meal or an encounter with South African art. Others recall quiet moments, friendships and the warmth of the welcome. Together, they tell a story shaped by the people who have stayed here and the team who have cared for them.
We invite you to explore these memories. You may even recognise your own handwriting.
A few more reasons to celebrate
We’re proud to have retained our Two Michelin Keys, alongside two wonderful honours in the 2026 Condé Nast Readers’ Choice Awards:
- No. 2 Hotel in South Africa — Condé Nast Traveler US
- No. 9 Hotel in Eastern & Southern Africa — Condé Nast Traveller UK
These recognitions give us a moment to thank everyone who makes Ellerman House part of their travels, and those who return year after year.
They also celebrate our team, whose care and attention shape each stay, from the first welcome to the thoughtful details guests remember long after leaving.
Your villa. Your pace. Every meal included.
Time together should feel effortless.
From 1 December 2026, stays in our private villas will include all meals and beverages, allowing guests to settle into their own rhythm.
Begin with a long breakfast overlooking the Atlantic, pause for lunch and gather for dinner with menus tailored to you. There’s no need to organise every meal or decide whose turn it is to cook.
With generous spaces and privacy, our villas offer room for shared moments and quiet time alike. Whether travelling with family or friends, the invitation is simple: make yourself at home and let us take care of the details.
At the Table
Two nights of culinary collaboration at Curate
On 25 and 26 September, we welcomed Chef Jason McKinney, whose experience includes The French Laundry, for two collaborative dinners at Curate at Ellerman House.
Working alongside our kitchen team, Jason brought fresh ideas and perspectives to the Wine Gallery table. The collaboration created an opportunity to exchange skills, explore ingredients and enjoy the creativity that comes from cooking together.
Across both evenings, the experience reflected the collective contribution of the kitchen, sommelier and front-of-house teams, bringing food, wine and hospitality together.
ArtAngels returns
A beautiful evening with a lasting purpose
On 7 November 2026, ArtAngels returns to Ellerman House, bringing artists, collectors and friends of the House together for an evening of South African art, food, wine and spirited bidding.
Held in support of Click Learning, the annual event helps create educational opportunities for children through technology.
It is a celebration of creativity and generosity, where the pleasure of discovering art contributes to a lasting purpose.
Just married. No need to rush.
The beginning of married life deserves a little time to pause.
At Ellerman House, honeymoon days can unfold with leisurely breakfasts, Atlantic views, South African food and wine, and space to enjoy being together. Cape Town waits whenever you feel like exploring; the House welcomes you back when it’s time to unwind.
Our guest books hold many happy honeymoon memories. We would love yours to be next.
